Shepherds Friendly is pleased to announce that we have signed up to Purple Tuesday, pledging that we will work to improve the experience of members living with disabilities.
Today is Purple Tuesday, an awareness day championed by the disability organisation Purple. It calls upon business of all sizes, across the world to make real changes that have a positive impact on the customer journey of disabled people.
This all forms part of Purple’s vision for organisations to see disability as an opportunity and to be part of addressing the inequality that exists for disabled people through increasing the accessibility of everything they do.
At Shepherds Friendly, part of our mission is to provide an individual experience for each member and to act in the member’s interest at all times. We want to ensure that every member has a positive experience when they deal with us; so, it’s vital that we consider how we can improve our service for existing and new members living with disabilities.
That’s why we’ve chosen to get involved with Purple Tuesday and we have pledged to review how we communicate with our members, with disabled people in mind.
We already have some initiatives in place. For instance, we are able to offer alternative documentation to members (for example, large print product literature) and our front-line teams have been trained in how to assist members that may need additional support.
As part of our pledge, we’re planning to implement further changes that will make our services more accessible to members with disabilities.
Purple’s CEO, Mike Adams, commented:
“I am delighted Shepherds Friendly is involved in Purple Tuesday. It underlines their public commitment to improve the customer experience for disabled people. Together we can and commit to change the customer experience for disabled people for good.”
As part of Purple Tuesday, Shepherds Friendly employees have been invited to put forward their ideas for any improvements we can make. In addition to this, fact sheets have been made available in the office to help educate the team.
Culture Director Nasrin Hossain said:
“It’s been great to see the team embrace the significance of Purple Tuesday with such enthusiasm. Our member-focused culture is at the heart of everything we do, so employees are always keen to make changes that will improve the member journey. We can’t wait to get started!”
