What is World Mental Health Awareness Day?

World Mental Health Day is a day dedicated to talking about mental health and breaking down the stigma surrounding it. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health and this is the perfect time to talk about how we’re really feeling, check in on friends, family and colleagues and ensure that those who need it can find the help that they need. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, a lot of people have struggled with their mental health due to uncertainty, the risks of catching COVID-19, as well as isolation when in lockdown. Due to this, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has chosen the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day to be ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’.

When is World Mental Health Awareness Day?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that World Mental Health Day will take place on 10th October every year.

The best way to take part this World Mental Health Day is to talk about how you’re feeling if you’re currently struggling, as well as checking up on anyone you know. Stress and Mental Health

While stress isn’t a mental health problem, if someone with anxiety, depression or a different mental health concern becomes too stressed out, it can make their condition worse. Likewise, if a person is struggling with their mental health and finds it difficult to manage their day-to-day responsibilities or other aspects of their life, it can impact their mental health even more.

There are a variety of healthy ways to combat stress and improve your mental health including: speaking to your GP, yoga and meditation, talking about your problems with a professional, seeking out help from a friend or loved one or taking part in an activity to help your wellbeing.

Money Mindset

With the current cost of living crisis, more and more people are noticing the impact it’s having on their finances. This can be very stressful, which could negatively impact your mental health even more. If you find yourself struggling, there are a variety of financial advice charities such as Money Advice Trust, Step Change and The Money Charity which have a wide variety of resources to help whatever your situation may be.

No matter your circumstances, let’s take this World Mental Health Day as an opportunity to have an honest reflection on how you’re currently feeling, reach out to loved ones and seek out any help you may need.
